At Counties Manukau DHB we have a number of scholarships available to assist you with your journey into an exciting career in health. Our scholarships are open to New Zealand citizens or permanent residents who live in the Counties Manukau DHB district.
Ko Awatea Health Scholarships
This health scholarship programme is a partnership between Counties Manukau District Health Board and the South Auckland Health Foundation. The programme supports people in our Counties Manukau community to study health and cultivates our future health workforce.
A number of scholarships are awarded each year for twelve month tenure and a maximum of $5,000.00 is paid for tuition fees only. The key criteria relates to academic achievement, community involvement and financial hardship. In addition, scholarships will be awarded on future workforce need. Maaori and Pacific students are strongly encouraged to apply as we would like our workforce to better reflect the community we serve.
Scholarship awards are paid inline with programme milestones and at the successful completion of each semester. As awards are paid at the end of each semester, you will be required to pay for your fees at the beginning of the course which is then reimbursed after successful completion. Healthy Lifestyles Scholarships
Scholarships are available for Maaori, Pacific and South Asian students who wish to study Human Nutrition, Dietetics, Sports and Recreation and Health Promotion. For more information including eligibility criteria, click here.

Pacific Health Workforce Awards
These awards are administered by the Health Research Council of New Zealand on behalf of the Ministry of Health. The purpose being to contribute to the development of a tertiary qualified Pacific health workforce by supporting the workforce training needs of Pacific health providers and students to undertake a health related course of study.

Le Va (Pasifika within Te Pou) is committed to enhancing Pacific mental health workforce capacity and capability. Le Va administers and manages the Pacific Mental Health Workforce Scholarships funded by the Ministry of Health. Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT)
The MIT Tertiary Scholarship Programme works with secondary schools in Counties Manukau. The aim is to provide seamless pathways to education and training at MIT for students in the area.

The University of Auckland
The University of Auckland Scholarship is award to New Zealand secondary school students wishing to enter an undergraduate degree programme at The University of Auckland. Students must show academic excellence, all-round ability and leadership potential to be considered for this award.

The University of Auckland Chancellor’s Awards for Top Maaori and Pacific Scholars recognises and rewards the academic achievement, cultural involvement, all-round ability and leadership potential of Maaori and Pacific students from New Zealand secondary schools. Recipients are offered mentoring and financial support to help them participate successfully in tertiary study at The University of Auckland.

In addition to scholarships, The Medical and Health Sciences Faculty at the University of Auckland have a Maaori and Pacific Admission Scheme (MAPAS). This provides entry for Maaori and Pacific students to study Pharmacy (BPharm), Medicine (MBChB), Nursing (BNurs), Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHSc) and the Certificate in Health Sciences (CertHSc).

Auckland University of Technology (AUT)
The Occupational Therapy Scholarship provides financial assistance to individuals who wish to enrol or re-enrol in the BHSc (Occupational Therapy) at AUT. The scholarship is only for individuals who are Maaori, Pacific, Male or disabled.
The Keir Trust Study Award aims to encourage students facing financial barriers to undertake studies at AUT. Financial assistance and ongoing non-financial support will be given to recipients.

Unitec Study Awards are available to current Unitec students and prospective students who have applied for enrolment in a full-time and full year Unitec programme. Some of the Unitec Study Awards are specifically for secondary school students from a Unitec partner school who have applied for enrolment at Unitec.
Otago University
The University of Otago Maaori and Pacific Island Entrance Scholarships encourage Maaori and Pacific students to take up tertiary study. Up to 30 scholarships are awarded each year.
Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarships assist students who have demonstrated all-round ability and leadership potential to attend Otago University.
Dux scholarships are awarded to any student who is named dux of their school. The scholarship can be used for hall of residence costs and/or course fees. Each recipient is guaranteed a place in an Otago University residential college or hall of residence.
